So here is my long awaited update. I’ll try and make this a weekly Wednesday Friday thing since those are the days I have off.
It turns out this is a week full of Canadian Indie Artists releases. Broken Social Scene with “Forgiveness Rock Record” and The New Pornographers with “Together” are both being released today. Stars will be out on June 22nd. If any of you are interested Alan Cross got a chance to listen to the Stars’ fifth full length album today and here’s what he thought about it. http://www.exploremusic.com/essential-reading/2010-05-04/Stars-Five-Ghosts-Track-by-Track
Trent Reznor has released new music since his parting with Nine Inch Nails with How to Destroy Angels, which I guess you could say is his follow-up band with his wife and front women of the band, Mariqueen Maandig. The full length EP will be out this summer but they’ve released a track “A Drowning”, which has me reminiscent on Nine Inch Nails in a softer, less grunge rock, raunchy feel. Hear it for yourself here. http://pitchfork.com/news/38686-how-to-destroy-angels-a-drowning/
Rumour has it that the Guitar Hero Franchise has its sights set on the Chili Peppers as their next victim. Game publisher Activision is looking to expand its franchise to a Red Hot Chili Peppers based Guitar Hero game that like many other games alike will highlight the band’s greatest moments and include unlockable features such as interviews, retrospectives, concert footage, and other commentary. The Chili Peppers also hope to have released their 10th studio album by 2011 since production started last fall.
Many have confirmed for the up and coming Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival which will kick off August 17th in Minneapolis and finish on October 4th in Madison, Wisconsin. Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold will headline the tour along with Stone Sour, Halestorm, Hellyeah, Hail The Villain, and New Medicine. This tour will also feature a second stage which will be occupied by a Battle of the bands winner in each city. Many of the artist’s on this bill have albums being released this summer, Disturbed with “Asylum”, and Hellyeah with “Stampede”. Avenged Sevenfold will also be releasing their first album since the death of drummer James “The Rev” Sullivan, and has yet to be titled.
Dead Weather, led by Jack White has a announced a North American tour to support its second album “Sea of Cowards” to be released May 11th. Jack White has also reported that he would like to reunite with Meg White to create the next White Stripes album.
Brandon Flowers, lead singer of The Killers, has decided to take things into his own hands and produce a solo album. Alan Cross has some funny interpretations of what might be going on between the “Killers” here. http://www.exploremusic.com/essential-reading/2010-05-03/Not-Sure-This-is-Necessary-But-Brandon-Flowers-Goes-Solo
And last but not least a band I think you all should check out. The Narrative http://www.purevolume.com/thenarrative
